EPA Renovator Repair and Painting Class: 40 CFR 745
In April 2008 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a rule that significantly impacted the renovation and remodeling industry. The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) at 40 CFR 745 will change how contractors conduct activities on child occupied buildings constructed prior to 1978.
Effective April 2010, If you work on a house or child occupied facility constructed prior to1978, this rule applies regardless of who owns the structure, who is paying for, or compensated for the work.
The RRP Requires two separate certifications and specific training.
Certified Firm: The actual company that performs the work must be a Certified Firm. This is a relatively simple administrative process.
Certified Renovator: The Certified Renovator is a specific individual employed by a Certified Firm. The Certified Renovator shall be assigned to each project requiring the removal of lead based paint and must be present at the job site during specific phases of the job. These responsibilities may not be delegated to a non-certified person. The Certified Renovator is also required to train all non-certified workers who will be conducting work activities. The non-certified workers shall not perform the duties required by the Certified Renovator.
Training
On June 18, 2010, EPA announced a delay of enforcement on the RRP’s certification requirement. Until October 1, 2010, EPA will not take enforcement action for violations of the certification requirement. Though the certification requirement is delayed, failure to follow safe work procedures will still trigger a violation.
Greenleaf Management Inc. is an EPA approved training provider for the RRP Initial Class. This eight hour class will be conducted at our training facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Please check our class schedule for future classes. To register, you may contact us directly or register on-line via our web site .
